Martin Margiela, a rather introvert designer who never shows himself on the catwalk or on pictures, was born in Genk in 1957 and might be at first sight the least known name among our fashion designers. However, he developed his technique and style at the Antwerp’s Royal Academy for Fine Arts where he graduated along with the famous avant-garde fashion collective the ‘Antwerp Six’.
And by many, he is considered as the 7th member. After two years working for Jean Paul Gaultier he developed his own style which can be described as a mixture of innovation and wearability with the focus on re-imagining and recycling materials.
