© NattynattyboomWalter Van Beirendonck is a Flemish fashion designer. He was born in Brecht on February 4th 1957.
Van Beirendonck graduated from the Antwerp Royal Academy of Fine Arts (Antwerp Fashion Academy) in 1980. Together with Dirk Van Saene, Dries Van Noten, Ann Demeulemeester, Marina Yee (graduated in 1981) and Dirk Bikkembergs (graduated in 1982), he became known as one of the Antwerp Six.
He has been bringing out his own collections since 1983. He designed the costumes for the U2 'Popmart tour' in 1997.
Walter Van Beirendonck received the honorary title of 'Cultural Ambassador of Flanders' in 1999.
Has been both artistic director of Scapa Sports and head of the Fashion department of the Antwerp Fashion Academy since 2006.
