Jacques Brel

Jacques Brel is a respected singer and author-composer of worldwide fame (Brussel, April 8th 1929 - Paris, October 9th 1978).

He sang mostly in French but considered himself a French speaking Fleming.

Brel is known in the English speaking world especially through interpretations of his songs by other singers. He is also remembered as an actor and director.

He sold over 25 million records worldwide, including over 12 million albums and singles in France and Belgium.

Jacques Brel died in Bobigny in the suburbs of Paris, of lung cancer, and is buried in the Marquesas Islands.
