The Smurfs is a popular comic strip series created in 1958 by Belgian cartoonist Peyo (pseudonym of Pierre Culliford).

Smurfs (French: Schtroumpfs) are imaginary blue creatures housed at a mushroom village in the middle of a vast forest.

Later the characters served as inspiration for an animated television series.

Since the death of the author in 1992, his son Thierry Culliford has continued his father's work.
