People with disabilities

The Accessible Travel Info Point (in Dutch: Infopunt Toegankelijk Reizen) is a service of the Flemish Tourist Board Toerisme Vlaanderen, which grew out of cooperation with various organisations and services by and for people with disabilities.

The mission of the Info Point is to supplement the lack of information about travelling when you have a disability. 

• A traveller with a disability or impairment will find carefully collected information at the Info Point about the accessibility of various holiday destinations.  He/she can expect reliable information from us, tailored to his/her personal requirements.

• The tourism sector in Flanders can contact us for background information about accessibility, subsidies available and guidelines for alterations to improve accessibility.

• The Flemish Tourist Board's accessibility policy is presented here (link goes to article in pdf). 

• The Accessible Travel Info Point is not a travel agent or (for tourism service providers) an architectural practice. We provide the necessary information, but leave the practical arrangements to you.

If traveling in a wheelchair, it is vital to get in touch with the station of your departure at least 24 hours in advance. The Belgian Rail System offers: Special space for wheelchairs in 1st class; platforms and compartments accessible to wheelchair passengers. Some toilets are also accessible to wheelchair passengers; seats have been specially provided.
