Type: 2012 and beyond, Exhibitions
The In Flanders Fields Museum as we know it today has been outgrowing itself for quite some time. After twelve years, we are therefore forced to adapt our permanent exhibition.
The facts related to World War I remain the same, but our view of certain aspects has changed over the years. For example, we would like to actively involve the war landscape of the Westhoek region as a last remaining witness. Also, a lot of museum equipment has evolved. Finally, every day, we see how visitors want to increasingly fit their own personal, family or regional history into the bigger story.
The new In Flanders Fields Museum tells the story of the experiences of man at war, and about the war as a general cultural and social phenomenon. The story is evoked through the latest multimedia techniques and in constant relationship to the leading historic witnesses of the war: objects, images and stories, as well as today’s landscape.
